The Choroi pentatonic flute, with its easy tone production and its beautiful, mild group sound, has become a classic among children's instruments. All the Choroi flutes are characterized by a warm, light, flexible tone. Compared with traditional instruments, the Choroi flutes possess a tone that sounds more like a voice than an instrument. This unique tone quality leads to a corresponding style of play. A free outbreathing, rather than an active blowing, forms the foundation for the tone. The mouth and lip positions also contribute to the tone formation. The fingers gently touch the specially formed finger holes, which allow half-steps to be achieved naturally by half-covering the holes.
The Choroi pentatonic flutes are made of pear wood treated exclusively with linseed oil in the EU. The pentatonic flute with tone block is available in A=440 Hz, and the Quinta is available in A= 440 Hz or A= 432 Hz. Each flute has 6 finger holes, with a range of: d''-e''-g''-a''-b''-d'''-e''', Comes with wooden cleaning swab, cotton flute bag, and care manual.
To understand the difference, the tone block produces a superb sound but the drawback is that tone blocks are susceptible to breaking or falling out and getting lost if the flute is dropped or treated roughly. Since children may still be learning to treat them gently, this often leads to the problem of having to replace the tone blocks. Thus, the Quinta was developed. Choroi plans to eventually phase out the original flute with tone block, although we expect replacement tone blocks will still be available for a while. It may be advisable to stock up if you wish to purchase and enjoy the wonderful sound produced by these flutes. The Quinta will be the future of Choroi pentatonic flutes. It is available in both 432 Hz or 440 Hz. What is the difference? The 432 Hz is said to be tuned to the vibration of the universe's harmony, and spiritually "tunes" one to the music of the cosmos. However, it sounds best played alone as it does not always blend perfectly with other 432 Hz flutes, because a chromatic scale cannot be made with the 432 Hz pitch. The 440 Hz was developed to best harmonize multiple instruments, enabling them to be tuned together with greater accuracy.
As regular oiling is vital to the flute, we recommend flute oil be purchased as well.
